Erin seems to live a charmed life, she shares her gorgeous home and family through her beautiful Instagram feed. Her images can make me down right drool over her vintage inspired design. Her mix of shabby chic with more glamorous pieces are an obvious draw to her feed.  Her home always seems to be perfectly organized, it makes you wonder how she manages such perfection with children in toe!

Not only is Wendy a lovely person who I have had the joy of working with, her posts (or videos on youtube) are absolutely gorgeous. Her warm and sweet personality shows through in her pictures and anything she posts. She hits the modern farmhouse style nail right on the head in all of her images. Plus, you can always catch one of her haul videos to find out exactly where she got each of her pieces displayed in her home.

Jessica has a beautiful feed with a neutral palette and a splash of color. I can’t help but love her true modern farmhouse style with all its rustic glory. Even with her large family she somehow manages to have the time to make her home look so picture perfect. Trust me Jessica we are all jealous.

I think what I love about Liz Joy’s feed is the mix of images of her family, outfits and her gorgeous home. Its never boring and it’s always drawing me in. I love that she is able to mix in a lot of pink with her neutral tones, which adds an amazing famine flare to her pictures and her decor. I also have to love another colonial loving New Englander out there. Plus we both have Joy in our names!

This is a popular Instagram among modern farmhouse style enthusiasts. I think it goes without saying the feed is absolutely gorgeous, I wouldn’t include one with subpar imagery. I personally love Alicia’s pictures given her use of grey throughout her home, something that I am also a HUGE fan of. She’s not scared of color, although generally on a muted scale. Something that can be missing from many of the farmhouse styles out there.

Valentine’s Day Decor that Has Us Falling in love

Christmas has come and gone, now you are looking forward to leaving holiday decor behind. What is next? Valentine’s Day of course!! As we push into the new year, it’s time to transition to pale pink and love themed decor. Are you as excited as we are?!  As we, here at Refined Relics Designs, have starting curating the January boxes, we have started to fall in love with some subtle, adorable Valentine’s Day trends. What are these decor pieces that have us goo-goo? Check out our list below!

Heart Garlands

Etsy: pomtree

This one is something that I think is subtle, understated and an absolute must for your Valentine’s themed decor. A perfect addition to hang on your mantel, replacing the empty space from the holiday stockings. You can really choose any color or theme for these bad boys. Of course Etsy is my favorite place to look for items like this, because I like the quality and authenticity you get with hand made items.

Watercolor Pinks and Reds

Refined Relics Designs

If you are fond of the modern farmhouse style then you may have a very neutral palette in your home. If you have lots of subtle color tones then your may be opposed to having bright pinks and reds on display. That is okay. Much like with the fall, you can still include pops of color through watercolor-esque accents. This can be accomplished through wall art, signs, pillows and throws easily.

Kissing booth Signs

Refined Relics Designs

These signs are adorable and super popular! You can find all sorts of these signs online, especially on surprise surprise Etsy. The one pictured here is actually a Refined Relics Designs original and we are totally feeling it this year. Extra points if you actually found a truly vintage sign, I never have!!

Rose Gold Anything

Easy: TheFulfilledShop

Okay I LOVE rose gold for pretty much everything, but it is something that I have been seeing a lot of as we go into Valentine’s decorating. I really thinks it adds a touch of class, glamor and charm. This script style balloon makes me absolutely giddy, and I think it would make for an awesome addition for a valentines or love themed party. It’s available on Etsy of course!

Blush

Refined Relics Designs

Now this blush color isn’t only for Valentine’s Day, it is a wonderful color all year round. I like to think of it as the grownups coral! It adds a nice romantic feel and cozy accent to any room. It is wonderful on a throw or accent pillow for a little extra glamor or drama in your decor.

Hearth & Hand Disappoints? 5 Reasons Why Loyal fans are calling foul.

Hearth and Hand is the wildly anticipated Joanna & Chip Gaines expansion of their Magnolia brand to Target shelves. After it launched on November 5, 2017, it left many Magnolia lovers disappointed, leaving stores with little to no purchases. But why? Today’s list explains why this launch seemed to fall short for many dedicated fans.

  1. Bland

The absolute number one reason for complaint that I have seen on message boards and Facebook posts is, it is bland. I have to agree, it is very simple and clean, and if that is your specific style you are probably one of the people who was very excited and dropped a pretty penny. However, many expected more from the extremely popular designer. Her show has often featured eye catching, antique and farmhouse style, to see her transition to a more modern simplistic farmhouse style took many of her fans by surprise.

  1. Holiday Centric Release

A number of complaints stemmed from the timing and focus of the release. The early holiday season release included A LOT of holiday items and less day-to-day décor pieces. Because Magnolia products are generally anything but affordable, many fans have been waiting for a large release of cost-friendly décor. Seeing mainly Christmas and Holiday décor as the primary focus of the displays led many to still search for the main farmhouse pieces that they can utilize all year long.

  1. High price, low quality

Let’s face it, Magnolia products are typically expensive. Most of the fans whose pocketbook can’t handle a $99 throw pillow purchase (See above example from Magnolia Home line carried at Pier 1)  have been super excited for a Magnolia brand that was aimed at them! When the release of Hearth & Hand offered simple and often bland décor pieces, it had them making comparisons. Many said that they didn’t see much of a distinction between this Target brand and any other in the store, they were very obviously paying for the name. Some even said that they wouldn’t have even given it a second glance if Joanna Gaines’ name wasn’t plastered on it. That’s pretty harsh coming from the loyal Gaines fan base.

  1. High Expectations

If you have watched Fixer Upper or perused any other higher priced Magnolia Brands, the expectations were pretty high. Fans were expecting to see similar pieces for lower costs. Anticipation only grew with announcements that the show would be ending and all of the marketing based around the Hearth & Hand release, the launch was admittedly underwhelming. However, this may not be completely the fault of Hearth & Hand itself, remember this is still a Target release. This is a massive store and it was unlikely that many of the store were able to display and organize the products that would have held to the Joanna Gaines fan standard. One final thought, this was a hugely popular release, many flocked to stores on Sunday, as soon as they could. Meaning that anyone that wasn’t through the door bright and early may have missed many interesting products and witnessed a picked over display.

  1. Brass & Green Complaints

Now this one I don’t completely agree with, but I have seen it pop-up quite a few times so I thought that I would mention it. Many farmhouse style lovers were just over the green, black and brass. It was a holiday themed release so the inclusion the hunter green (which I personally love) had some non-green fans turned off. Also, brass can be very divisive, strange I know. But if you are a more traditional fan of silver and gold tones, brassy metals can turn you off completely.

Alright, so that’s our list. What did you love? What did you hate and why?

5 Ways Joanna Gaines Has Changed the Game

Joanna Gaines and her husband Chip have become household names and genuinely started a whole style revolution! Following their announcement last month that this upcoming season of Fixer-Upper will be the final season, us loyal fans have had to come to terms with the fact our favorite show and favorite couple will no longer be gracing our television screens. In honor of this announcement we thought we would release our top 5 ways that Joanna Gaines has changed the style, renovation and real estate game!

5.) Wholly Ambition Batman

Let’s just take a step back and realize that this is a woman with four young children, a small farm, husband and a massive multi-national brand all based in Waco, Texas. This is pretty impressive, amazing and downright insane. Now I lived in Texas for nearly 5 years in both the cities of Austin and Dallas, so I have made the trek through Waco on I-35 only a million times, and let me tell you, Waco while possessing a lot of the Texan charm, is nothing like the metropolises to the north and south. My husband and I purchased our first home in a Dallas suburb in 2016 for $208,000, spent a year renovating the small 1-story brick home and a year later sold it for $250,000 after about $20,000 worth of renovations. Pretty impressive, right? Well yes, but we were capitalizing on the ridiculous Texas and specifically Dallas real estate markets. Waco certainly does not have the same real estate values and growth that a huge city like Dallas has, and the fact that the Gaines’ have been able to do so much without having to sell out their Texan roots and move to a bigger city is stunning. People from all over the world literally travel to them in Waco to visit their store, specifically to shop and experience the brand the Gaines’ have established. Who else has that kind of brand loyalty?

4.) Artisan Love

shutterstock_578729914.jpg

The last couple years have seen a massive push for artisan made goods at all ends of the spectrum, from soap to furniture, and we have the Gaines’ to thank for at least a portion of this. On the show, you can see Joanna frequenting her favorite artisans and vendors. She returns to the same individuals for unique and custom pieces, and gives you a sense of the warm and fuzzies. These are real people who have worked hard to hone their craft and it is refreshing to see them succeed, especially when their goods are so impressive. Now it seems like everyone has some side business or Etsy shop where they distribute their passion projects to the masses.

3.) Shiplap

shutterstock_654218233

Okay, so who had even heard of Shiplap before Joanna Gaines? Now I can’t think of single home décor guru that I follow on Instagram that doesn’t at least have one shiplap accent wall. This ode to a time gone by sets hearts a swoon whenever she features it in the show, and now it is a massive trend in old and new homes. It is simple, classic and we all can’t but hope that this one sticks around for a while. Speaking as someone who has grown up in homes that predate the United States of American by a good decade or two, I love to hear people who know a thing or two about older home restoration. Now if only I can get people’s eyes from glazing over when I speak of horsehair plaster and square peg nails.

2.) Relationship Goals

Chip and Joanna

I think this is a big one. We love Joanna and Chip, and their whole darn family! Why? Because they are adorable! It is so refreshing to take a break from the Kardashian relationship variety and see a cute couple, obviously in love, who have built a wonderful life and company together. We just don’t see this enough and I think what these two have, have us all saying “relationship goals”!

1.) Farmhouse Style

shutterstock_377825686.jpg

Boom, here’s the biggen’. Quick do a quick search for home décor on Instagram, what comes up? I will tell you will see a lot of chipping paint, white and rustic accents. Throw in a destressed window and magnolia wreath and you have the starter pack for the farmhouse style! You can thank Joanna for this. People have been so receptive to this trend that regardless of your personal homes style you can see it time and time again. Even here at Refined Relics we embrace this style in our boxes and love to cater to this demographic that Joanna largely created.

While I think we can all say we are sad and disappointed that Fixer Upper will be coming to a close following the 5th and final season, we have to give kudos where they are due. We have all followed the Gaines on their journey through the years and watched them explode into a massive brand, one we are all obsessed with. For them to take a step back and focus on their family, we all have to smile and appreciate that this is part of the reason that we love them so much.
